Pastor Jeff Johnson

Jeff Johnson

Jeff Johnson is the pastor at Westfield Baptist.  He began his ministry here in 2014.  He was born in Savannah, Georgia and spent his childhood living wherever his father’s Air Force assignments took them – California, Texas, and Turkey (yes, the country!).  At age 12, his family settled in Goldsboro where Jeff attended middle and high school.  Jeff felt God’s call to ministry in high school as a response to his good church experiences, faithful parents, and loving teachers and mentors throughout his young life.  Jeff wanted to be a mentor, teacher and encourager of others in the way he had been mentored and encouraged.Jeff attended college at Campbell University, graduating with degrees in Religion and Spanish.  He earned his Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest and served as a youth minister while in seminary.  After seminary, Jeff and his new wife Jenni took a trip to the beach which lasted 16 years, with Jeff serving most of that time as associate pastor at Southport Baptist Church.  While in Southport, he also served as a hospital chaplain and high school teacher.  From 2006-2010, Jeff’s church ministry journey continued as Minister of Education at a church outside Raleigh.  For the last three years before coming to Westfield, he worked as a hospice chaplain.  Jeff’s call and response to ministry has had many surprises and challenges, but as the old spiritual says, “wouldn’t trade nothin’ for my journey now.”  At this point in his spiritual journey, Jeff feels most passionate about leading people to experience the presence of God through worship, compassion and spiritual practice.  He is also a trained and practicing counselor, completing the doctor of psychology program in Pastoral Counseling in May of 2016. Jeff is married to Jennifer Lee Sewell of Rocky Mount, NC, elementary teacher and magnet coordinator at Hunter Elementary in Raleigh.  Jeff and Jenni have three children: daughter Gracyn, a middle school teacher and coach in Charlotte; son Wynn, a student at Methodist University; and daughter Chloe, seventh grader at Ligon GT Magnet.  Jeff enjoys reading non-fiction, playing ping-pong, golf and tennis and watching funny and meaningful movies.

Currently, she is the Instructional Coach at Harnett Central High School, previously a teacher since 2002, teaching all levels of Chemistry. Mike and Nicole have two daughters, Cara and Allie, who both attend Harnett County Schools. Paula is a graduate of Fayetteville State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education with a concentration in History. She was a 3rd and 5th grade teacher from 1997 to 1999 and married Joe Jones in June 1999. Joe and Paula reside in Sampson County.
